GROUP MUSIC LESSONS

Group classes are available for:
Pre-School, Choir, Viloin, Guitar, Piano

Pre-School

The pre-school music program is a fun, group music class for children ages 3-5, designed to teach the basic fundamentals of music. All classes are limited to 8 students per class and are 30 minutes once per week. The classes cover:

Movement and music
Learning to sing and listen
Making music with percussion instruments
Recognition of orchestral instruments
Rhythm
Melody
Elementary note recognition

The rhythm component is taught by doing fun games with rhythm sticks, triangles, shakers, hand drums, etc.

For the melody component they learn the concepts through lots of singing. They will learn high – low, loud – soft, pitch, major – minor, etc.

For notation they learn how to recognize musical symbols such as treble clef, bass clef, half note, whole note, etc. (Much the same as learning your alphabet before you learn how to read.) We also teach them how to recognize all the instruments of the orchestra both by sight and sound. For example, by the end of the program they can quickly tell you if the sound they hear is a trumpet or saxophone.

The pre-school music classes are taught by our instructors with university degrees in music who love working with young children. The instructors are patient, fun and very encouraging. The pre-school music program prepares students to go on into private instrument lessons when they are older.

Choir

The children's choir is specifically designed for children ages 6-12. The choir program teaches vocal basics in a fun group session. The choir is taught by one of our voice teachers with an university degree in music specializing in voice. Students are split into a junior choir for ages 6-7 and a senior choir for ages 8-12. Students in the junior choir are often learning how to read words at school and a bit more focus is spent on the actual lyrics. Students in the senior choir are taught the more complex harmony parts. Students in each group learn proper warm-up and breathing exercises, and an introduction to harmony. Splitting the weekly rehearsals into age appropriate sessions, makes a smaller, more intimate group where each student can get more personalized attention. When it comes time for performance, the junior and senior choirs perform together as one larger group. The choir works on a wide range of musical styles from contemporary Disney songs to Christmas classics and historical folk songs. Performances happen at Christmas and at year end and are enhanced with costumes and staging. Choir rehearsals are 30 minutes, one time per week.

Violin

Our group violin lessons are meant for students who are motivated by, or just enjoy working as part of a team. The social interaction helps these students stay motivated and challenged in a supportive, friendly environment. Each class will follow the Suzuki Violin Method and is taught by one of our violin instructors with an university degree in violin. Each class is a 45 minute session and limited to just 8 students per class. Students will either progress into the next group level or into private lessons. These classes are meant for beginner level students. Group violin lessons are offered for beginners ages 5-7 or ages 8-11.

Guitar

Our guitar lessons include acoustic, electric and bass guitar. We have an excellent guitar teaching staff and teach guitar lessons in everything from rock to jazz and classical to pop. Our guitar teachers have university music degrees so they know the proper theory and technique. No matter what type of guitar lessons you are interested in, we have the teachers to help you or your child. Typically, a student would be eight years old before starting guitar lessons, due to their hand size, but some younger students may start with a junior sized guitar. Lessons are offered in 30 minute, 45 minute and 1 hour lengths.

Piano

Our schools offer piano lessons for students of all ages and abilities from beginners to very advanced students. We offer every style of piano lessons from classical to jazz to pop. We start piano lessons from age five onwards. Before age five, we recommend our group preschool music program. Our piano teachers have university or college training and are active performers. Lessons are offered in 30 minute, 45 minute and 1 hour lengths.
